AIRA is a nationwide not-for-profit organization serving the needs of business turnaround, restructuring and bankruptcy practitioners, recognized as the leading organization in its field. Membership consists of accountants, financial advisors, attorneys, workout consultants, trustees, and others involved in insolvency, and bankruptcy matters. The AIRA seeks to foster an understanding of the insolvency, reorganization and business turnaround practice, ato sponsor relevant education programs and to administer the Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA) and the Certification in Distressed Business Valuation (CDBV) programs in order to recognize professionals for their excellence in specialized services.

Association Goals and Activities
- Recognition
To increase industry awareness of the AIRA as an important resource for professionals in business turnaround, restructuring, and bankruptcy practices, and of the CIRA designation as an assurance of expertise in this area. - Network
To help foster effective working relationships among professionals in the business turnaround, restructuring, and bankruptcy practices, and to help others better understand the value and the role of the financial advisor. - Influence
To have an impact on legislative and professional issues that affect business turnaround, restructuring, and bankruptcy practices. To serve as a advisory source for practitioners and other professional organizations, such as AcSec of AICPA and FASB with respect to other account practices and other issues. AIRA members have given testimony to congressional subcommittees in the past; including the Bankruptcy Review Commission and the Association will continue efforts to make significant contributions to developments in this field. - AIRA Journal
To publish a bi-monthly newsletter on current issues and developments relevant to the insolvency and restructuring practice, as well as to inform members of upcoming Association events. - Certification
To develop and carefully administer a stringent certification program, including a written examination and an educational program covering an appropriate common body of knowledge preparatory to the written examination. Combined with a comprehensive experience requirement, this will lead to certification by the AIRA as a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor (CIRA). - Membership Directory
To compile, publish and distribute a directory of all members of the Association on an annual basis. In addition, a directory of Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors (CIRA) is also published annually. - Education
To provide high-quality educational programs for members and other professionals, and to accurately record, and make notification of CPE credit for qualified course participation. The AIRA Annual Bankruptcy and Restructuring Conference is a four-day event dealing with current issues in turnaround, legal, tax, accounting, and financial areas of business turnaround restructuring, and bankruptcy practices. In addition to the annual conference, the AIRA presents a variety of programs at a number of locations throughout the year. - Technical Service
Through a committee of recognized specialists in the insolvency and restructuring field, the Association provides answers to bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring issues. - INSOL International
AIRA is a member of INSOL International, and one of AIRA’s members serves on INSOL’s council. INSOL International is a world-wide federation of national associations of accountants and lawyers who specialize in the insolvency area. The mission of INSOL is to take the leadership role in international insolvency issues and policies, and also to facilitate an exchange of information and ideas among members and other constituencies affected by the insolvency process.
