AIRA President’s Letter

Soneet R. Kapila

Dear AIRA Members:

Since the organization’s inception, we have branched out in several different directions that it is hard not to recognize. With the 21st Annual Conference, we were able to award the first certificates of the new CDBV educational program. I would like to take a moment to mention Tracy Gopal, the recipient of this year’s Manny Katten award. Over a year ago, the launching of the CDBV program would not have been possible without her invaluable assistance. Improving the quality of our programs has always been a high priority in maintaining the AIRA is the premier organization in our particular line of quality education.

I must extend the gratitude of the Association for our conference co-chairs, Frank Conrad (Jager Smith, PC), Steve Darr (Mesirow Financial), Paul Moore (Duane Morris), Bruce Smith (Jager Smith, PC), and the entire Planning Committee. Many thanks to our Executive Director; Grant Newton and the conference staff from AIRA, Beverly Huard, Justin McCord, Aaron Crabtree, as well as the balance of the staff in Medford for a job very well done and their perpetual dedication. A special thanks to Noemi Contreras (Mesirow Financial) and Kristin Petrucci (Jager Smith, PC) for assisting our staff with the conference. I also thank all the sponsors for their generosity during the 2005 Conference. Their contribution to a successful conference is greatly appreciated.

The AIRA has four upcoming programs in the next few months that we hope to see our members at.

  • The West Coast Corporate Restructuring Conference will be on September 29th at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco off of Union Square. Topics will include: an “Overview of Recent Developments in Business Bankruptcies”, “Critical Vendor Motions After K-Mart”, “Successful Strategies Used in Acquiring Distressed Companies”, among others. The educational program will be followed by a Networking Cocktail Reception.
  • In November, AIRA and sponsors will be holding a Breakfast and Dessert Reception on the 2nd and 4th, respectively. This will be at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges at the Marriott Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio, TX.
  • Finally, on November 17th, the New York Advanced Plan of Reorganization Conference will be held at the Park Central Hotel. Topics will include: 2005 Bankruptcy Amendments, Fresh Start Accounting, Valuation, and others. This will be followed by another Networking Cocktail Reception.

We hope that you enjoy the rest of the summer, and look forward to seeing you at next year’s 22nd Annual Conference in Seattle!

Best wishes,

Soneet R. Kapila, CIRA
