President's Letter

Alan D. Holtz

Dear AIRA Members:

The Association’s 6th Annual Advanced Plan of Reorganization Conference was held in New York on September 18, and it’s not an exaggeration to say that never before have I heard such favorable comments about a professional education program. The topics all hit the mark, and the speakers did a great job of communicating their insights, which kept audience interest and participation at a very high level. The Union League Club proved to be an excellent setting for learning, networking and honoring (in this case, Judge Judith Fitzgerald of the Delaware Bankruptcy Court). I want to express sincere thanks to co-chairs Bill Lenhart and Andrew Silfen and to the planning committee, our sponsors and our panelists for making this exceptional day possible.

As I write this letter, many of us are on our way to Orlando to attend the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. Are we in for three days of discussing amongst our peers how quiet the restructuring markets have been and wondering when things will change? Did the little credit crisis give us a glimpse of what lies just around the bend and perhaps jumpstart our market? Many of us have said it before, and it continues to be said – “We don’t know when it’s coming, but when it does, it’s going to be big.” It will be interesting to see what those at NCBJ are saying about the market right now.

I will close by inviting any AIRA member with an interest in authoring an article for our Journal to send an email to Justin at jmccord@airacira.org. We are always seeking thought leadership pieces that would be of interest to our reader base. Publishing in AIRA Journal is a great way to share your expertise with those who need to know more and those who might just decide to hire you to show them the way.

Warm regards,
Alan
